Abī S̲h̲ayba who was one of the famous muhaddiths claimed on his work named as Muṣannaf that Abū Ḥanīfa opposed some narrations concerning almost one hundred and twenty-five concepts mentioned by Prophet Mohammad. Thus Ibn Abī S̲h̲ayba separated one certain chapter of his work just for expressing this issue. One of his objections to Abū Ḥanīfa is whether a funeral prayer for the martyrs should be performed or not. According to Abī S̲h̲ayba, even some reports that Prophet Mohammad did not perform the funeral prayer for martyrs who died in the Battle of Uhud, Abū Ḥanīfa rejects this narration and claims that it is supposed to be done so. Therefore, in this article some narrations, offered by Ibn Abī S̲h̲ayba as evidence to reveal that funeral prayer was not practiced for Uhud martyrs, are covered if these narrations are sophisticated in the manner of sanad and textual analyzes. In this manner, some opposite narrations claiming that funeral prayer for martyrs must be performed was also mentioned. When certain claims arguing that funeral prayer was practiced, are considered, it is necessary to study reasons why Ibn Abī S̲h̲ayba radically opposed Abū Ḥanīfa’s and other reasons constructing Abī S̲h̲ayba’s views. Also, it was not neglected to mention the general approaches of Sharihs i.e commentators about this issue. Moreover, the narrations claiming that funeral prayer for martyrs of Uhud battle was not performed are more accurate than others arguing that funeral prayer was performed. Meanwhile, it is known that narrations reporting funeral prayer was acted for Uhud martyrs were widely criticized and thus they were regarded as weak. As a result, it can be seen that having made a choice from two narration groups, Abū Ḥanīfa acted in a principle of chariness instead of opposing sunnah.
