Abstract:

The aim of this research is to examine the predictive power of basic psychological needs satisfaction (the need for autonomy, the need for competence, the need to be relatedness) and the mindfulness variables in teacher candidates’ assertiveness levels. The sample of the study consisted of 370 teacher candidates, 246 of whom were women and 124 were men. Self-Determination Scale, Need Satisfaction Scale, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. Stepwise regression analysis was used to analyze the data. According to the findings, the variables of autonomy need satisfaction, mindfulness and competence need satisfaction significantly predicted the assertiveness levels of teacher candidates. It has been determined that the common effects of these three variables explain 50% of the variance regarding assertiveness levels. The obtained findings were discussed in the light of the literature, and suggestions were presented for future research.
