Abstract:

Human rights, despite their widespread use and popularity in academic studies, are a relatively new concept. To understand this concept, it is necessary to first examine the notion of rights. The essence provided by the concept of rights explains the qualities of "inalienable, indivisible, and irrevocable" often repeated for natural rights. In this context, through the understanding we have from its etymological origin, natural law can be properly addressed as a foundation. Thus, it will be possible to shed light on how the meaning and scope of human rights have come to be understood today. Human rights, in fact, did not emerge independently from the understanding of rights that existed before them. Rather, they emerged as a result of the changes the concept of rights underwent throughout history. In this vein, the enchanting connection that remains unseen between natural rights and human rights is of significance. Therefore, in the study, the understanding of natural law is set as the starting point. Indeed, it will be seen that natural rights are ultimately embodied in the entity of human rights.
