Abstract:

Urfa stone, due to its aesthetic appearance, easy processing, heat insulation and resilience, has been used as an important building material in Shanlıurfa from ancient times to today. In today’s technology, with the excessive use of concrete, the Urfa stone has lost its importance. In the study, because of its ability to be easily processed unlike works in literature, it has been studied that the Urfa stone taken from the Sanlıurfa area stone boards can be obtained and processed in CNC and used as a design element in urban furniture. A series of engineering properties have been tested and analyzed in structural stone samples related to mineral and petrographic properties and chemical, physical-mechanical and petrophysical properties. Urfa stone is in crystallized form and 55.31% CaO and 0. It has a spharytic tissue containing 24 SiO2. The porosity ratio is 16.50%, the specific weight is 2450 kg/m3, water absorption is 9.15%, pressure resistance is 19.70 MPa, inclination resistance is 5.21 MPa and collision resistance is 4.05 kPa. In petrophysical properties, the Δ (procent variation of properties) values were between 1.63 and 16.14%, while the Δ after salt crystallization test was between 3.27 and 24.57. According to this characteristic change (Δ%) calcium is more resistant to degradation than other natural stones derived from carbonate. The performance of the urfa stone in urban furniture has been proven to be good according to the engineering characteristics tests. As a result of the study, it was determined that the new product design with Urfa stone, which can be easily processed using CNC machine, can be used in city furniture.
