Abstract:

This study aimed to investigate the effect of social skills training on submissive behavior of middle school students. The experiment and control groups for the research comprised 32 students, 16 female and 16 male, with ages from 12-13 years (Sd=.50) attending a middle school in Trabzon province. The data collection tools used in the research were the Submissive Behavior Scale and a Personal Information Form prepared by the researchers. The research was run in accordance with a pretest-posttest with control group research model. Analysis of the obtained data used statistical analyses such as the independent groups t test, common variable one way analysis of variance (Ancova) and multiple variance analysis (Mancova). The results obtained in the research showed that the social skills training program had a significant effect on reducing submissive behavior in middle school children. In addiction; the mean posttest and monitoring test points for submissive behavior obtained by students participating in the social skills training program were lower than the mean posttest and monitoring test points for submissive behavior obtained by students who did not participate in the social skills training program.
