Euphysical otitis media is a common middle ear mucosa disease in children. It is important that hearing loss associated with ophthalmic otitis media in many people can affect language development. The objective of this study is to determine the hearing edges of children with fusion otitis media with a pure sound odyogram and to identify the hearing loss profile. Method: Ephysical otitis media school age children were included in the study. The bone and airway transmission boundaries were obtained using standard odyometry procedures. The results obtained were classified and the odyometric profile groups were determined. The findings: 50 children (87 ears) between the ages of 5 and 14 were included in the study. At 500Hz, 1000Hz and 2000Hz, the average air transmission limits were between 3 dB HL and 67 dB HL, and the average rate was determined at 22.6 dB HL. The average bone transmission boundaries were -7dB HL to 15dB HL and the average value was 2.7dB HL. There are five odyometric profiles. Normal hearing (<16 dB) in 28 ears, very light hearing loss in 32 ears (16-25 dB), light hearing loss in 8 ears (26-30 dB), medium hearing loss in 17 ears (31-50 dB) and advanced hearing loss in 2 ears (51-70 dB) were identified. Result: In children with euphysical otitis media, pure sound hearing limits can be detected, ranging from normal to progressive hearing loss.
Introduction: Otitis media with effusion is the common middle ear mucosa disease in children. Hearing loss associated with otitis media with effusion in children is important because it can affect speech and language development. The aim of this study was to determine the hearing thresholds of children with otitis media with effusion and determine the hearing loss profile. Methods: Children of school age with otitis media with effusion were included in the study. Bone and airway conduction thresholds were obtained using standard audiometry procedures. The results were classified and the audiometric profile groups were determined. Results: 50 children (87 ears) aged between 5-14 years were included in the study. Air conduction thresholds averaged for 500 Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz were in the range of 3–67 dB HL with a mean of 22,6 dB HL.The mean bone conduction thresholds were defined as a range of -7dB HL to 15dB HL and a mean value of 2.7 dB HL. Five audiometric profiles were determined. 28 ears normal hearing (<16 dB), 32 ears slight hearing loss (16-25 dB), 8 ears mild hearing loss (26-30dB), 17 ears moderate hearing loss (31-50dB) and 2 ears moderatly severe hearing loss (51-70dB) was determined. Conclusions: In children with otitis media with effusion, pure tone hearing thresholds ranging from normal to severe hearing loss can be determined.
