Abstract:

In recent years, it is seen that qualitative research methods and qualitative research designs are frequently used in social and human sciences. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine and describe the qualitative research designs that are widely used in social and human science research. In the study, phenomenology, ethnography, case study, action research, discourse analysis and grounded theory, which are mostly preferred by researchers within the tradition of qualitative research; purpose, process and reporting techniques are discussed and explained. In addition, the main differences of qualitative research designs from quantitative designs were also revealed in the study. In the examinations and evaluations, it was concluded that qualitative research designs have an important place in social and human science research. In this context, some suggestions have been presented in the context of conducting qualitative research designs in an effective and efficient manner. In this respect, it is expected that this study will contribute to the literature on qualitative research designs, albeit relatively and limitedly.
