Abstract:

Sports and body training play an important role in the cultures of communities and in the processes of modernization. In the Ottoman Empire, the social consciousness of sports is seen to be far behind the West. Although the Ottoman Empire, which aims to solve the shortcomings in the military, legal, scientific, religious fields, has made various arrangements in the partial fields before Tanzimat Ferman, it seems that the first comprehensive arrangement in the real sense appears with this ferman. The Ottoman tebaas, who began to gradually accept modern western life in response to Tanzimat Ferman, began to become aware of sports activities in the European states. Especially with the interest of the minorities living within the Ottoman State borders, football, gymnastics, volleyball, etc. The sports industry has also started to draw attention. The Ottoman society, which began to become aware of the sports branches of the Western world, began to adopt the traditional sports branches as well as the Western sports, and the concept of sports press appeared in response to the interest of the public. From the printing of the "Football" newspaper that began its broadcasting life on 11 October 1910 to the 1928 Harf Inkılab, many periodic publications related to the sport topic (the newspaper, the mecmua, the ruzname, the salname, etc.) It is clear from the literary examinations. Especially these publications are health, morality, socialization, militarism and physical training, etc. It appears to be contained. With these publications, it is possible to explore the social, military and cultural environment of that era. In this context, it can be stated that the detection of the sports periods to be obtained by the archive scan will solve a significant lack in literature.
