This paper aims to put forward how and in which ways mothers affect the quality of mother daughter relationship in a comparative way by examining the books of Şebnem İşigüzel and Elfriede Jelinek. Quotations from this books are used to illustrate despite both sides’ being female, how mothers’ dominant authority and their involving violence into their relationships with their daughters reflect upon their own daughters, their bodies and their internal worlds and how it is perceived by other women. The illustrations depend on the main ideas of the two novels, features of different characters, certain images, and the authors’ style of writing.
