Abstract:

Purpose: This study was conducted with the aim of examining the consultations requested to children who were treated in a regional psychiatric hospital in the years 2016-2017. Method: The study, designed as a retrospective cohort, was conducted by examining the records of 82 44 girls and 38 boys/adolescents who were treated in a regional psychiatric hospital in 2016-2017 and asked for consultation. The study assessed the socio-demographic characteristics of children/adolescents and consultation requests with 22 questions prepared in open and closed ends. In the analysis of the data, number-percentage distribution, average and standard deviation were used. Results: For cases with an average age of 15.13±1.73, a average of 1.15±0.42 times due to medical problems and 54.9% from a family doctor, 29%. In 3, neurologists and 8.6 percent dietists were asked for consultation. In cases, organic mental disorders 11%, soft tissue swelling 24.4%, obesity 8.6%, stomach pain 6.1%, diarrhea 6.1%, epilepsy 6.1%, upper respiratory infection 6.1%, and routine pre-evaluation related to electroconvulsive therapy 7.3% were identified as the causes of frequently consultation request. Result: The child/adolescent is determined to distinguish from the inherent family doctor and whether there is another organic disorder that is frequently accompanied, and to determine whether consultation is required due to soft tissue swelling and overweight due to physical trauma that occurred before arriving at the hospital. According to this conclusion, in order for mental health professionals to be able to provide comprehensive and qualified care, a comprehensive mental evaluation of the child/adolescent’s admission to the psychiatric clinic, as well as an effective physical evaluation, will be extremely important and useful in the determination of accompanying medical problems, drug side effects, ignorance and abuse stories.
