Abstract:

Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2008, is one of the authors of contemporary French literature with his interest and sympathy to the lost civilizations and the countries of the third world. As an origin, Le Clézio, who was born in France, from a family with large land on Maurice, a few generations ago, has always been aware that he is of two origins, and has always expressed his anti-colonial attitude, despite feeling divided between Metropol and the Colony, and has reflected it in his novels. The marginal characters in Le Clézio’s many novels, on the one hand, present the sympathy he feels to the whole humanity without distinction, while on the other hand, they draw attention as the carriers of an anti-colonial attitude. In this study we will try to focus on the love of mankind that Le Clézio tries to transmit through the marginal characters in his novel The Golden Fish, the anti-coloniality, the criticism of the Western World (including America). In the great absences, bad conditions, humiliations, abuses, harassment, and spiritual collapse caused by the unhuman treatments they encounter, we will draw attention to the standing struggle that these marginals show. The majority of these marginalized characters of black, Arab, and Chinese are able to see the evils in the world with the negative ones they experience, while they want to internalize the life with their own side, and they are opposed to the ambitious, individual, selfish, and colonial people of the West. We will try to emphasize this contradiction in our work. While preparing our work, we hope that the sociological research and studies on marginalism and the words of thinkers like Frantz Fanon, Aimé Césaire, Edward Said will keep us light.
