Çatıören is an important settlement in Eastern Rough Cilicia which has been discussed by many researchers. In this article Çatıören will be evaluated as a settlement model based on the historical and economical background that provides a new perspective about the regions’s rural settlements. Çatıören’s ancient roads connects the region’s rural settlements with each other and with the coastal settlements. During our study new data has been provided on the temple, gable roofed aedicula tomb, rock cut tombs, monumental columns, farmhouse and presses. According to our new proposals and the suggestions of some researchers, the informations on the structures in the settlement have been revised. The settlement’s plan shows that the topography was very effective on the settlement pattern. Most of the identified structures appear to serve to a common purpose. This common purpose is to protect the settlement, valley roads and agricultural products which belonged to the settlement in the Hellenistic period. In particular, the farmhouse having polygonal masonry, towers, and being located near the equipment for wine pres, supports this view. In addition to newly discovered structures in the south slope of the settlement there are constructions such as olive oil workshops and wine presses, which they are very related with the rural economy of the settlement and the region. In the Roman period the settlement continued this character and new structures were added. Sarcophagi, gable roofed aedicula tomb, olive oil workshops and many houses belong to this period. In this perspective Çatıören has become a more complex settlement in the Roman period. Çatıören developed also in the Late Antiquity. During this period, olive oil workshops, church and many houses were reused or added to the settlement. Çatıören was affected from the economic recovery and diversification of agricultural products in the Late Antiquity. For this reason Çatıören had become a village of small or medium size in this period.
