Abstract:

Social pleasure is one of the factors that threaten the validity of data in research. Therefore, it is important to increase the use of Marlowe-Crowne Social Pleasure Scale Short Form C, to make social pleasure scales visible and to control social pleasure errors in research. The aim of this study is to carry out the validity and reliability study of the Marlowe-Crowne Social Pleasure Scale Short Form C (Reynolds, 1982) in the Turkish university sample. The study group of four different state universities comprises 492 (6.8%) women and 245 (3.2%) men and a total of 737 university students.   In the framework of the measurement adaptation work, the opening factor analysis, the parallel analysis and the verifying factor analysis were performed. The opening factor analysis is based on tetrakoric correlations and the verifying factor analysis is performed in the Mplus program using the WLSMV cut method from the cut methods. The scale, which is the original one-dimensional with the opening-factor analysis, is two-dimensional, and the verification-factor analysis has found that the model-related conformity ratings are in line with the two-dimensional structure. As a result, Marlowe-Crowne Social Pleasure Scale Short Form C has sufficient validity and confidence in measuring the social pleasure of university students in Turkey.
