XXXL BEDENLER: OBEZ BİREYLERİN BAŞ ETME STRATEJİLERİNİN BAZI SOSYODEMOGRAFİK DEĞİŞKENLER AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı özel bir obezite cerrahisi kliniğine başvuran obez bireylerin bu hastalıkla baş etme stratejilerini incelemektir. Nicel araştırma yöntemi ile tasarlanan bu araştırma, söz konusu kliniğe başvuru yapan ve obezite tanısı alan bireyler arasından uygun örneklem yöntemiyle belirlenen 93 bireyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan kişisel bilgi formu ve Tuna (2003) tarafından Türkçe geçerlilik ve güvenirlilik çalışması yapılan Başa Çıkma Stratejileri Ölçeği Kısa Formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesi için SPSS 23.0 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Katılımcıların çoğunluğunu kadınların ve lise mezunlarının oluşturduğu bu çalışma sonunda obeziteyi tetikleyen nedenler arasında yeme bozuklukları ve stresin olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan obez bireylerin en çok kullandıkları başa çıkma stratejileri planlama, kabul etme, aktif başa çıkma ve olumlu yönde yeniden yorumlama olduğu madde kullanımı ve davranışsal uzaklaşma tutumlarının ise diğerlerine göre daha az kullanıldığı bulunmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda obeziteye ilişkin toplumsal farkındalığın oluşturulması ve arttırılması, tedaviye başvuran bireylerin sosyal işlevselliğinin arttırılması, psiko-sosyal destek sağlanması ve obezite artışını engellemek amacıyla kalıcı çözümlerin gerekliliği üzerine öneriler sunulmuştur.

XXXL Bodies: A review of the strategies for non-obesity individuals from the basic sociodemographic variables

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the strategies of obese individuals who apply to a special obesity surgical clinic to cope with this disease. This study, designed by the Nicel research method, was conducted with 93 individuals identified by the appropriate sampling method among those who apply to the clinic and who have been diagnosed with obesity. As a data collection tool; the personal information form created by the researchers and the short form of the Scale of Output Strategies conducted by the Turkish validity and reliability study by Tuna (2003). The SPSS 23.0 package program has been used to evaluate the data. At the end of this study, the majority of participants were women and high school graduates; among the causes that trigger obesity were eating disorders and stress. The study found that obese individuals used strategies of dealing with planing, accepting, actively dealing with and reinterpreting in a positive direction, while drug use and behavioral distraction attitudes were less used than others. The research has presented recommendations on the need for sustainable solutions to create and increase social awareness about obesity, to improve the social functionality of individuals seeking treatment, to provide psychosocial support and to prevent an increase in obesity.

The aim of this study is to investigate the coping strategies of obese people admitted to a private obesity surgery clinic and the relationship between the coping strategies and some socio- demographic variables. This study, which had been designed with quantitative research method. This study has carried out with 93 individuals, who were referred to the clinic and diagnosed with obesity. Personal information form, which was created by the researchers, and Tuna (2003), Brief COPE, which was conducted by the Turkish validity and reliability study, has used as data collection. SPSS 23.0 package program was used to evaluate the data. The majority of the participants were women and high school graduates. As a result of the study, it was found that eating disorders and stress triggered obesity. It has found that the most commonly used coping strategies of obese individuals/people are planning, acceptance, active coping and positive reframing. In addition to substance use and behavioral disengagement attitudes are less used than others. As a result of the research; It has made some suggestions to prevent and struggle with obesity such as counseling and training on strategies to actively deal with stress and the need for permanent solutions something like creating and raising social awareness of obesity.
