Al-Ma'ani is about the order of elements of a sentence and the effect of this order on meaning. One the topics of al-ma'ani is qasr which means the restriction of some elements of a sentence to others. Sakkaki is the first one who tackles qasr in a seperate chapter and gives an exact definition of qasr, its elements and parts. There were some contributions to the issue of qasr by many scholars by the time Kazwini gave the final form of qasr. In this study, the ideas of linguists as from Sibawayh who have a word in qasr will be given. Abd al-Qahir al-Jurjani has almost touched upon all the points of qasr so he has a great role in conceptualization of qasr. Therefore, Al-Jurjani’s opinion about Qasr will be analyzed in detail. However, he dispersedly dealt with the issue of qasr in his book and because of that, the conceptualization of qasr was completed later by Sakkaki and Qazwini. In the study, previous to historical process, the definition of qasr, its elements, parts, forms and the difference between them will be shortly tackled to fall information into place when talking about the historical process.
