Purpose: This study was aimed at detecting the prevalence of Escherichia coli that produces extended spectrum in the packaged and unpacked chicken butter, breasts and wings (GSBL) which is commercially available for sale. In the study, 30 chicken butts, 30 chicken breasts and 30 chicken wings were used as material for sale in different markets. From each sample, Brillance ESBL agara crops are made after pre-enrichment, max from suspicious colonies that grow after appropriate incubation. Five of them were selected, and the EMB was passed. IMViC tests were used to identify isolates as E.coli. The production characteristics of the GSBL are phenotopically determined by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Results: From 159 E. coli suspected isolations obtained from chicken meat samples, 152 (95,5%) were identified as E. coli. After a combined disk diffusion test, it was found that 28 (18.4%) isolates were GSBL positive. In the examined breasts 17 (60%) but 9 (32%) and 2 (7%) GSBL isolat were found in wing samples. The distribution of GSBL-produced E.coli isolates in packaged and open samples was determined at 71% and 28% respectively. The presence of E. coli, which produces GSBL in chicken meat, shows that food can also be an important source in the transmission of this type of resistance to humans. Although foods are regularly studied within the scope of pathogenic bacteria, the bacteria producing GSBL are not within this scope. This situation can lead to the unnoticed increase of new resistant bacteria through the food chain. Therefore, in addition to the determination of resistance phenotypically in bacteria, it is recommended that the obtained isolates, through advanced analysis, be identified whether they carry this characteristic genotypically or not.
