Abstract:

Purpose: This study was aimed at comparing short-term oncological results in laparoscopic and open distal subtotal gastrectomy cases applied to local advanced stomach cancer. Method: Local advanced stage diagnosis of stomach cancer and the study included a total of 22 patients with distal subtotal gastrectomy between September 2014 and September 2015. All patients were remotely metastatic with computer tomography and the pathological diagnosis of stomach cancer was confirmed in the pre-operative period. Patients with distal subtotal gastrectomy (DSG) and D2 lymphadenectomy were compared with patients with laparoscopic distal subtotal gastrectomy (LDSG) and D2 lymphadenectomy in terms of age, gender, tumor size, the number of extracted lymph nodes and the early results of surgery. The average age of patients was 53.8±10.2 years, the body mass index was 26.1±3.9 kg/m2. There was no difference in the patient’s characteristics in both groups. Although the duration of the surgery was significantly high in the LDSG group, the amount of bleeding was less. There was no difference in the size of the tumors removed by surgery and the number of disqueated lymphatic nodes. Also, the rate of early postoperative complications was similar in both groups. The result: LDSG is a safe method that provides equal number of lymphatic nodes with a comparable rate of complications with the open technique. Also, LDSG can provide healing in oncological results that cause fewer bleeding.
