Abstract:

Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze and compare patients diagnosed with new diabetes mellitus (DM) after infection with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) with clinical findings and glycemic parameters. Method: This retrospective fact-control study included patients who have not passed COVID-19 with post-covid DM (PCDM) and who have been diagnosed with new type 2 DM. Results: The study included 58 patients diagnosed with PCDM and 57 patients diagnosed with Type 2 DM. 73 of the participants were men and the average age was 49.1 ± 12 years. The two groups were similar in terms of age, gender distribution, smoking, family DM history frequency and body mass index average (p > 0.05). In type 2 DM patients, mouth drought, polyurethane, polydipsy and weight loss were more common; in PCDM patients, infertility was more common (p < 0.05). The serum creatine levels in the PCDM patient group are higher than the type 2 DM patient group (p < 0,05); the glycosyl hemoglobin A1c, c-peptit, alanin transaminase, aspartate transaminase, lipid levels and the microalbumin/creatine ratio in the spot urine were similar between the two groups (p > 0,05). Neuropathy of type 2 was more common in the patient group of DM (p < 0,05). At the moment of diagnosis, the frequency of diabetes ketoacidosis was similar between the two groups (p > 0.05). This study found that PCDM patients were present with different symptoms and findings than type 2 DM patients but were very similar to type 2 DM patients in terms of metabolic parameters.
