Evaluation of the reduction of excess weight and nutritional deficiencies in pre and post bariatric surgery patients

Obesity is a public health problem that has been growing in large proportions in recent years, especially in emerging and developed countries. The most appropriate treatment is currently the multidisciplinary monitoring with nutritionist, doctor and physical educator. However in severe cases Bariatric Surgery may be indicated as an ally to the rapid decrease of weight by the patient. Recent studies show that patients who went through the surgical procedure may develop nutritional deficiencies arising from that process. The aim of this work was to evaluate the reduction of excess weight, the nutritional deficiencies of vitamins and minerals of individuals before and after Bariatric Surgery followed in outpatient treatment sector of morbid obesity (Obesimor) Regional Hospital Hans Dieter Schmidt in Joinville-SC. was held a retrospective cross-sectional study with non-probability sampling. To this end, we analyzed the biochemical tests of pre and post bariatric surgery patients with Gastric Bypass procedure in Y de Roux, in order to analyze the weight reduction and nutritional needs. It was found that the average weight loss was 12, 5 kg compared to pre and post surgical value of up to 90 days. The average patients regressed from obesity grade III to Grade I obesity was not identified the occurrence of deficiencies after the surgical procedure. It is necessary a follow-up of these patients in the long term, in order to map possible nutritional deficiencies in the post-operative bariatric surgery.
