Abstract:

Tului is a 17th-century divan poet who is not mentioned in tezkire and other biographical sources. As the works of the poet known in the literature, his historical masnavi named Paşa-nâme, Sultan IV. Murad’s eulogy named Pesendide-nâme, which deals with the conquest of Baghdad, and the same sultan’s ode in the type of rahşiyya, which he wrote to praise his horses have been the basis for the information obtained about his life. A manuscript containing the poet’s poems at the Istanbul University Rare Books Library, which has not been studied before, has been the subject of this article with the opportunity to add a new one to Tului’s known works and to contribute to the biographical inferences made from these works. In the article, information about Tului’s life, works and poetry was conveyed, the manuscript was introduced, the formal characteristics of the poems were stated, the findings about the content were listed with sample couplets, and the unknown poems of the poet were published. As a result, the process of affiliation of Tului, who described himself as the meddah of the sultan, to Sultan Ibrahim after Sultan Murad IV was emphasized as examples of the Ottoman patronage system reflected in the poems. In adition a more detailed biography of the poet was tried to be reached based on his praising poems.
