The purpose of the present study was to explore doctoral students’ reflections on supervisory feedback given during developing research proposals and executing research for their dissertations. The researchers selected doctoral students of education as a case to uncover their reflections on supervisory feedback in public and private universities in the province of Punjab, Pakistan. Qualitative data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with fifteen doctoral students receiving feedback on their dissertations or research proposals. The study sample was selected from the education departments of public and private universities by using purposive sampling. Thematic analysis was used that revealed three main themes, namely, perceived supervisory feedback, doctoral students’ reflections and difficulties in understanding supervisory feedback. It was remarked that supervisory feedback was considered significantly important and helping in improving doctoral students’ research proposals and dissertations. The study has implications for improving standards of supervisory feedback and doctoral program. The students’ understanding of their dissertations' feedback is worthwhile for supervisors, doctoral students, and academicians who are engaged in research in the universities.
