Objective: It is intended to investigate the risk factors that are believed to be the basis for the development of allergic diseases in the perinatal and early childhood period. Methods: This study was conducted in children diagnosed with allergic disease from 1 to 16 years of age (n=188) from 2009 to 2010 in the Allergy and Immunology Clinic. The control group was formed from healthy children of the medical staff working and healthy children between 1-16 years of age (n=72) coming to the clinic. The study used a survey form in which the risk factors considered to be associated with asthma, allergic rinitis, atopic dermatitis/exem and urethra-angiodema were questioned. The number of male children in the case and control group was 106 (56.4%) and 37 (48.6%) respectively. The average age of the case and control group was 7.73 ± 3.31 and 7.06 ± 2.86 years respectively. The average symptom age in patients with atopic dermatitis, asthma/reactive airway disease and allergic rinitis was 1,77±1,30 years, 3,62±2,80 years and 4,51±2,63 years respectively. Compared with the risk factors questioned in the case and control group survey, the allergy history in the mother (the doctor diagnosed asthma/allergic rhinitis/exem) (July 0,01), smoking in the mother (p=0,002), prenatal (p=0,000) and postnatal (p=0,000) exposure to smoking, fewer than 4 months of nutrition with breast milk (p=0,01) and significantly higher in the case group before the 4th month of formula starts milk (p=0,038) Result: In our study, history of maternal allergy and smoking, prenatal and postnatal smoking exposure, feeding with breast milk for less than 4 months, and starting formula milk before the 4th month of life increased the risk of allergic diseases.
