Abstract:

The use of information technology by individuals in the school age is considered a major problem by teachers. Especially in the pre-adolescence period, the assessment of how this problem is perceived by the parents is the starting point of the research. Thus, the purpose of this research is to develop a scale that will reveal the attitudes, behaviors, controls and limitations that high school students parents bring to their children towards the use of computer technologies. In the scale development process, the scale form was created first by literature scan and expert opinion, in the two state schools identified by appropriate sampling method 6 and 7. A pilot application to the parents of 294 students studying in the classes was carried out and the data obtained was analyzed and scale correction was made. As a result of these analysis processes, a three-factor scale structure was created (Use in Education, Control and Restrictions, Negative Effects), the total variance of these three factors was 52,07 %; for each factor, the scale's Cronbach Alpha reliability ratio was 0.83, 0.80 and 0.70 respectively. The second application to the parents of 354 students was subsequently conducted by the verifying factor analysis and the values of the conformity index included in the structural equality model found that the materials were generally acceptable and well-compatible. After the analysis of this factor and reliability studies, the scale, which consists of 18 substances in the Likert type, was given the final form. This scale can be said to be sufficient to enable parents to comprehensively interpret their attitudes and behaviors towards their children’s use of technology by treating them in three different dimensions.
