Abstract:

Transportation main plans are a type of plan that is important to be made in cities with a population of 100,000 and more when it comes to our country’s legislation. These plans are made in order to ensure a comprehensive short- and medium-term solution to transport problems in many large, medium and small cities. With the development of technology, it is also concerned the development of solutions produced in the field of transport. These developments take place in the form of solutions to problems such as traffic congestion and increased energy consumption through public transport systems. Public transport systems are among the main actors that provide sustainability by developed and developing communities in today’s cities. In recent years, alternative rail public transport systems have been preferred in urban transport and their use has increased. In the framework of this study, the current and proposed rail system scenarios are compared within the framework of the main transport plans made in large and medium-sized cities in Turkey in the last decade. The current state of urban rail transport systems produced by their contribution to cities and main transport plans is assessed by what reasons these proposals and scenarios are preferred, which criteria are taken into account when the plan proposal is developed, and the current state of urban rail transport systems produced by the main transport plans.
