Evliyâ Çelebi Seyahatnâmesi genel olarak Osmanlı tarihi için önemli bir kaynak olduğu gibi 17. yüzyılda yaşamış ümerânın biyografileri konusunda da vazgeçilmez bir mehazdır. Bu makalede Evliyâ Çelebi’nin verdiği bilgiler çerçevesinde 17. yüzyılın mâruf simâlarından Seydi Ahmed Paşa ele alınmaktadır. Sarayda eğitim gören Seydi Ahmed Paşa, sancakbeyiliği, beylerbeyilik ve vezirlik rütbelerine yükselmiş; savaşlara katılmış, kaleler feth etmiş devrin kahramanlarından birisidir. Fakat aynı zamanda zalim bir şahsiyet olup görev yaptığı yerlerde reâyâya yaptığı zulümlerle tanınmıştır. Veziriazamlık makamına göz dikmesi sonunu hazırlamış ve Köprülü Mehmed Paşa ile giriştiği iktidar mücadelesini kaybetmiş ve pâdişah emri ile 1661 yılında öldürülmüştür.
