Abstract:

Cities are the areas where change and transformation movements in the world are exhibited. Cities across the globalizing world are competing to pay more than the tourism pie. With the advancement of technology, this competition has grown a lot. For this reason, it is extremely important to introduce cities that have their own dynamics and are places that try to perceive the past mood. The natural, cultural, and historical values of cities are promoted through logos. The logos of the cities should be clear and catchy, as well as contain the strong lines of the city. The subject of this study is the province of İzmir, which has an important place in Turkey in terms of natural, historical, and cultural purposes; industry, service, and trade. There are metropolitan municipalities and 30 district municipalities in İzmir. The aim of the study is to reveal the place of the district municipality logos in the promotion of the district by making semantic, factual, and color analyses. In addition, it is to determine the physical and human geography elements in the shapes in the logos. The study was prepared by using the scanning and document analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research designs, and the interview method, which is one of the qualitative data collection tools. The research data were obtained by accessing the information on the official web page of the district municipalities, with the opinion of an expert who is an officer of the press and public relations department of the district municipality in the province of Izmir. As a result of the research, physical and human geographical elements were found in the municipality logos.
