2021

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to conduct a narrative review on Roller Skating, since the literature still lacks information about this sport. The review was carried out from November to December 2020, using the descriptors roller skating, figure skating and artistic skating and their respective correspondents in Portuguese. The search included articles published between 1980 and 2020, resulting from all types of research. The articles selected for the study presented important information about sport, such as history, physical and physiological demands, as well as physical fitness and health-related issues. Figure skating is considered a developing sport and has a strong relationship with early specialization and high prevalence of injuries. Figure Skating athletes have an average VO2max of 37.7 ml.kg-1.min-1, the average height of the jumps is 21.3 cm and the %F varies between 17.3 and 22%. It is concluded that the Roller Skating presents moderate results for physical fitness, and the skaters of the Free modality present better results compared to the Dance modality. Body composition demonstrates normal results of bone mineral density and fat percentage, as well as normal flexibility values. Figure skating presents high rates of repetitive strain injuries mainly associated with training hours, complexity of technical movements and the process of early specialization.
