Abstract:

Recreation activities are important for individuals to spend their spare / leisure time and to feel good. However, not every individual can find the opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Because some factors are effective in participating in these activities. In this study, the factors affecting local people's participation in recreational activities and whether these factors differ significantly according to some demographic characteristics were examined through the Gaziantep example. In the studies conducted on the relevant subject, it was noted that there were not enough studies in the local population. For this reason, it is aimed to contribute to the recreation literature in this study. In this context, 428 people were reached through the convenience sampling method and online survey in the sample of individuals aged 18 or over between 15th November – 28th December 2019. As a result of the analysis, factors affecting the participation of local people in recreational activities are determined as “individual possibilities”, “physical and mental gains”, and “suitability of recreation areas”. It has been determined that local people's participation in recreational activities differs only by the frequency of participation in recreation activities.
