Over the last few years there has been a lot of interest in the problem of bullying which is a kind of peer aggression in schools. The first studies in this field were conducted by Dan Olweus in 1970's. Bullying defined as "negative behaviors" of one or more students intended to inflict physical or psychological injury or discomfort on someone who has difficulties for defending themselves. Typically such behavior is repeated during successive encounters. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequencies and the types of bullying; the gender of the bullies; the places of the bullying and the individuals whom the victims talk about the bullying. These were intended to be analyzed in terms of gender and the grade variables. This descriptive study was realized with 538 students from one elementary school in Bursa. The results showed that as the grade level of the increase the bullying levels decrease. Another result indicated that boys bully and they become bullied more than girls. Bullying takes place in school garden and the classroom most often. Victims declared that they generally talk about the bullying to their parents and to their friends. In long term bullying has negative effects on bullies, victims, bully-victims and the bystanders. At first we need a clearer picture about the rates of bullying. Then it is needed to start effective applications to prevent bullying and bully proofing.
