Öz Louis Jacobs (1920-2006) İngiliz Rabbi ve teologtur. O, Tevrat metnindeki vahiy ve insan unsurlarının biraradalığına dikkat çekmektedir. Modernleşme ile birlikte inancın ve dini pratiklerin sürdürülebilmesinin seküler bir eleştiriden geçmesinde sakınca görmemektedir. Kutsal Kitap metni epistemolojik olarak eleştirilmeli ve modern çalışmalarla karşılaştırılmalıdır. Jacobs görüşlerini açıklarken Ortaçağ Yahudi düşünürlerin görüşlerini önemsemektedir. Jacobs’ın görüşleri Ortodoks gelenek içinde bilinmesine rağmen açıkça tartışılması İngiltere Ortodoks Yahudiliği içinden bir ayrışmayı ortaya çıkarmıştır. Jacobs’a göre mitsvaların oluşumu, toplumsal koşullar, ihtiyaç ve beklentilerle oluşmuştur. Bu nedenle Kutsal Kitab’ın tamamen vahiy olarak kabul edilmesi mümkün değildir. Louis Jacobs (1920-2006) was the British Lord and theologian. He observes the revelation in the text of the Tevrat and the combination of human elements. It does not matter that, along with modernization, the persistence of faith and religious practices passes through a secular criticism. The text of the Holy Book should be epistemologically criticized and compared to modern studies. When Jacob explains his opinions, the medieval Jewish thinkers are concerned about his opinions. Although Jacobs' opinions were known in the Orthodox tradition, his clear discussion revealed a breakdown from the English Orthodox Jewish. According to Jacobs, the formation of myths is made up of social conditions, needs and expectations. Therefore, it is not possible that the Holy Book is fully regarded as a revelation. When Jacobs explains his opinions, more than an approach aimed at defending faith, he adopts an approach to accepting the historicity of the human element. Louis Jacobs’s effort to understand the tradition is consistent with Conservative Judaism, which accepts to take into account the philosophical, historical and modern criticism.
