Türki, Türki-yi Azerî vb. adlarla da bilinen Güney Azerbaycan Türkçesi (GAT), Türk dili ailesinin Oğuz grubunun yazılı ve resmî dil olmayan bir üyesidir. İran’ın toplam nüfusunun % 24’ü GAT’yi ana dili olarak konuşmaktadır. Ancak GAT, Farsçanın yoğun baskısı altındadır. Azerbaycan’da ve bütün ülkede yaklaşık seksen yıldır Farslaştırma politikası yürütülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Güney Azerbaycan Türkçesinin toplumsal-siyasal ve toplum-dilbilimsel durumunu kısaca analiz etmektir. Son bölümde GAT’nin yeni görünümleri hakkında bilgi verilecektir.
