Amaç: Bu araştırma üniversite öğrencilerinin çevreye yönelik duyarlılıkları ile tutum ve davranışlarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipteki çalışma, 2012-2013 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında, Çankırı Karatekin Üniversitesi, Orman Mühendisliği, İşletme ve Hemşirelik Bölümleri birinci ve dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinden seçilen 180 kişi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Verilerin toplanmasında araştırmacılar tarafından literatür taranarak hazırlanan öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özellikleri ile çevreye yönelik bilgi ve duyarlılıkları ile tutum ve davranışlarını belirleyici nitelikte toplam 28 soru içeren bir anket formu kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %62’si eğitimleri sırasında çevre konusunda yeterli eğitim almadıklarını ve %84’ü okullarda çevre konusunu içeren dersler verilmesi gerektiğini ifade etmişlerdir. Öğrenciler, Dünya’daki en önemli ilk üç çevre sorununu hava kirliliği (%90), ormanların tahribatı (%84), küresel iklim değişikliği (%81) olarak belirtmiştir. Türkiye için en önemli ilk üç çevre sorunu ise ormanların tahribatı, küresel iklim değişikliği ve çölleşme olarak ifade edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin, %25’i çevre koruma konusunda bireysel olarak bir şey yapabileceklerine inanmamaktadır. Sonuç: Üniversite öğrencilerinin eğitimlerinde temel mesleki konularına bağlı olarak çevreye yönelik farklı düzeylerde eğitim aldıkları anlaşılmaktadır. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin genel olarak çevre sorunlarına yönelik farkındalıkları ile tutum ve davranışlarının istenen düzeyde olmadığı görülmektedir. Öğrencilere, mesleki bilgiler yanında çevre konulu bilgi ve derslerin verilmesi, bu konuda bireysel ve toplumsal bilinçlenme ve farkındalık yaratılmasında olumlu sonuçlar verecektir.
Objective: This research was conducted to determine university students the sensitivity of their attitudes and behavior towards the environment. Methods: This descriptive study was carried out with 180 students of Çankırı Karatekin University, Department of Forest Engineering, Department of Nursing and Department of Business Administration in the academic year of 2012-2013. While collecting data; forms with the total of 28 questionnaires determining students' socio-demographic characteristics, attitudes and behavior with awareness of environment and prepared by the researchers by reviewing the literature had been used. Results: 62% of students surveyed emphasized that they had insufficient education environment during their school life and expressed the need to be taught with the environmental issues in 84% of schools. The most important environmental problems for the students in the first three ranked as World air pollution (90%), the destruction of forests (84%), and climate change (81%) unless otherwise stated. The first three of the most important environmental problems for Turkey are expressed as forest destruction global climate change and desertification. 25% of students do not believe they can do something about environmental protection individually. 30% of the students were determined to avoid using substances that damage the ozone layer, 35.5% of the students to separate garbage and only 11.6% of them to try to use recycled products. Conclusion: University students have been determined to not have enough environmental education, and don’t have awareness of environment and environmental issues desired level of attitudes and behaviors. Environmental education in order to develop positive attitudes and behaviors towards the environment should be planned for the students. Giving information about the environment and professional knowledge during training courses in will give positive results for increasing students' awareness as well.
