Abstract:

Our country carries out many activities with individual and international collaborations in order to ensure the integration of refugee children and youth into the Turkish Education System. Our country, which hosts many children as asylum seekers, is trying to create various opportunities inside and outside the camps to overcome hardships and problems. The general purpose of this study is to reveal the perceptions of refugee children who continue their education in a primary school in Turkey, about Turkey, in the context of patriotism, through drawings. The research is a descriptive research in scanning model. The study group of the research consists of asylum seeker students who continue their education in a primary school located in Karabağlar district of İzmir province in the 2019-2020 academic year. Within the scope of the study, the draw-and-tell data collection technique was used. In the study, the students were asked to draw what they had in mind when Turkey was mentioned and to explain what they had drawn. In line with the data obtained as a result of the research, when the drawings of asylum-seeking children living in Turkey, which has been hosting refugees for about 10 years, are examined, it is observed that they draw on the protective attitudes of the Turkish nation and state towards them.
