Abstract:

Today's economy needs individuals who can understand and interpret the developments in the market and make rational decisions. Therefore, it is of great importance to provide economic education for all segments of the society. The aim of this study is to determine the level of economic literacy of the students in Selcuk University Vocational School of Social Sciences. With a questionnaire, students' ability to comprehend the knowledge and concepts in economic courses and to follow and interpret the developments in economics which is defined as economic literacy were investigated. Within the scope of the research, a face-to-face questionnaire was applied to 218 students (126 girls and 96 boys) in Vocational School of Social Sciences between October 12, 2019 and December 2019. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22 statistical program, frequency distributions of answers, demographic characteristics of the participants were examined, reliability tests and correlation analyzes were performed. As a result of the research; The average level of economic literacy of students was found to be 70.98. It was found out that the students benefit from the courses related to the economics they read, so that economic education has a positive effect on the level of economic literacy. Other results are discussed in the text.
