This research aimed to detect how middle school pupils who use social media. The research was carried out with 119 pupils who studied at Tevfik Kut middle school in the 2016-2017 academic year. The data of the research was collected by using the qualitative investigation method and composing metaphors. In conclusion, 119 metaphors were composed by pupils. These metaphors were categorized into four groups according to a meaningful relationship and named by the researcher. These four groups are liberty and I feel like being gratified by obtaining desires (36), I feel like a source of information (27), I feel like having power and authority (20) and I feel like fulfilling hunger of knowledge by running after information (36). Categories of liberty and like being gratified by obtaining desires and like fulfilling hunger of knowledge by running after information are the ones having metaphors the most. Hence, it was proved that they felt more intense and significant emotions regarding being independent, being gratified by obtaining desires even in a virtual world, searching any information whenever they wanted and fulfilling hunger of knowledge while middle school pupils were using social media. Metaphors that were repeated the most in these two categories having metaphors the most were bird (4), butterfly (3), lucky (4), airplane (4), scientist (5) and bee (3). The category of I feel like having power and authority is the one emphasized and having metaphors the least based on pupils’ statements. The results of the research are presented in the related section by discussing.
