Abstract:

Ibn Hânî is one of the leading poets of Andalusian literatüre. He was born in Seville and completed his primary education here. He left his country at a young age and moved to the Maghreb and became the court poet of the Fâtimîd State. He lived in the palace of Muizz-lidînillâh, one of the rulers of this state, for many years and wrote most of the panegyrics that constitute a large part of his divan for him. In addition to Muizz-lidînillâh, he sang poems to his commanders, governors and many members of his family. He wrote couplets on elegy, satire, ghazal and depiction type poetry as well as panegyric. However, he generally included these couplets in his panegyrics. Although Ibn Hânî was born and raised in Andalusia, he always lived in the Arabian peninsula in his imaginary world, reflected the style and language of Jahiliyya poetry and imitated the poets of muallaḳa. The place names, beloved names and incomprehensible expressions specific to desert life in his poems clearly showed how much he imitated Arab poetry born in the desert. Because of all these, he was among the representatives of the period of imitation of eastern literature, which is also called neo-classical period in Andalusian poetry. In his poems, Ibn Hânî talked about the political and socio-cultural situation of the period he lived in, and mentioned many historical events and wars. For this reason, his poems have literary value as well as historical document value. In this study; The life of Ibn Hânî, his literary personality and the main poetic subjects such as panegyric, satire, elegy, ghazal and depiction that he dealt with in his divan were discussed. In addition, examples of these poetry topics are given with selected couplets from his divan.
