Purpose of the study is to determine the metaphorical perceptions of middle school students regarding the concepts of laboratory and distance education. For this purpose an instrument with two parts. In the first part, students were expected to complete the statements in order to analyze participants metaphors related with the concepts which are “Laboratory is like ……………”, and “Distance education is like……….” statements. In the second part, students were expected to complete the statements which were “Because…….” sentences. The study was carried out with 152 students who were from two different public middle schools in Hatay and İstanbul in the first semester of the 2020-2021 academic year. Reliability percentage of the study was calculated as 71% for laboratory part,, 91% for distance education. Obtained data was analyzed and according to the analysis 17 participants metaphors were excluded because responses were found to be inappropriate. Considering that education is continuing distantly through online education platforms due to pandemic, The Metaphoric Perception Test was applied to students online and phenomenology design was used as one of the qualitative research methods in the study. There were totally 159 metaphors were produced by participants. The metaphors related with related with laboratory grouped in 8 categories and the metaphors related with distance education grouped in 7 categories.
