Amaç – Bu çalışmanın amacı, X ve Y Kuşağının çalışma yaşamında motivasyonunu etkileyen faktörleri ortaya koymaktır. Yöntem – Çalışma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden biri olan olgubilim (fenomenoloji) deseninde yürütülmüştür. Katılımcıların belirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden maksimum çeşitlilik örneklemesi kullanılmıştır. Bu amaçla, eğitim düzeyi, sektör, görev, çalışma süresi bakımından çeşitlilik gösteren X Kuşağı temsilcisi 15 ve Y Kuşağı temsilcisi 15 kişi olmak üzere toplam 30 çalışan araştırma örneklemini oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplamak üzere görüşme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular – Araştırma, X ve Y Kuşağının motivasyonunu etkileyen pek çok husus ortaya koymakla beraber, ekonomik faktörler ile birlikte çalışma ortamının anlayış, uyum, cana yakınlık, hoşgörü, saygı gibi psikolojik yönlerinin X Kuşağı çalışanların motivasyonunda öncelikli faktörler olduğunu göstermektedir. Y Kuşağı çalışanlar ise ekonomik araçlar ve kariyer gelişimi ile birlikte kendilerini değerli hissettikleri, samimi, esnek ve rahat bir çalışma ortamını motivasyonda öncelikli hususlar olarak belirtmiştir. Çalışmada, X ve Y Kuşağının motivasyonunda benzerliklere de vurgu yapılmıştır. Tartışma – Çalışma, X ve Y Kuşağının iş yaşamındaki ihtiyaç, istek ve beklentilerinin daha iyi anlaşılması ve motivasyonu açısından ortaya koyduğu önemli sonuçlar ile çok kuşaklı bir çalışma ortamının daha iyi yönetilmesinde literatüre ve uygulamacılara katkı sunmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, örgütlerin arzu edilen bir çalışma ortamı oluşturmalarında bu sonuçlardan faydalanmaları büyük önem taşımakta; araştırmacıların ise bu kuşakların çalışma dinamiklerini anlamaya ilişkin daha fazla araştırma ortaya koymaları gerekmektedir.
The aim of this study is to identify the factors that influence the motivation of the X and Y generations in the work life. Method - The study is carried out in the phenomenology (fenomenology) pattern, which is one of the quality research patterns. Maximum variety of sampling methods were used for the determination of participants. For this purpose, the X Generation Representative, which shows diversity in terms of education level, industry, task, working time, and the Y Generation Representative, represents a total of 30 employees, including 15 persons. In the study, the method of conversation was used to collect data. The data is analyzed by the method of content analysis. The findings - The research reveals many aspects affecting the motivation of the X and Y generations, but the economic factors, along with the working environment, show that psychological aspects such as understanding, harmony, kindness, tolerance, respect are priority factors in the motivation of the X generations employees. The Y-Generation employees, along with economic tools and career development, have identified an intimate, flexible and comfortable working environment that they feel valuable as priorities in motivation. The study also emphasized similarities in the motivation of the X and Y generations. The study contributes to the literature and practitioners in the better management of a multi-generation work environment, with the important results that the X and Y generations present in terms of better understanding and motivation of their needs, desires and expectations in the business life. In this context, it is of great importance that organizations benefit from these findings in creating a desired work environment, while researchers need to present more research on understanding the work dynamics of these generations.
