Abstract:

This study analyses Necmettin Erbakan’s policy towards Central Asia through his works and speeches. The purpose of this article is not to clarify the relations between Turkey and the Central Asian Republics with all the details. In this context, it is attempted to respond to the claims that Erbakan is insufficient in developing relations with the Turkish Republics of Central Asia. This article consists of five subtitles. In the first subtitle, Erbakan’s foreign policy approach is revealed. The discussion of this issue serves to the understanding of the views and executions of the leader of the Peace Party on the countries of Central Asia. Secondly, the opinions that Erbakan has developed against the countries of Central Asia and regional powers in the years of opposition are subject to the analysis on the basis of the statements he has given. The next phase focuses on the visits of Erbakan to Azerbaijan and Central Asia in 1992. Finally, the policy towards the region is evaluated during the Prime Minister's period.
