Abstract:

Geography, deals with all kinds of interactions between human and natural environment with different aspects, is also an important area in terms of education. Geography has many specific educational materials. Information technology is also used in education as actively as in all areas. One of the information technologies, used in geography education, is Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In this study, GIS’s inquisitive features as a teaching material will be focused. Various maps can be produced with GIS starting from the current data. Depending on changes in the database, the prepared maps with GIS technology can be updated and this allows students to question geographical events. The prepared maps with GIS technology are such as to attract students’ interest and attention. Because GIS technology bases on users’ active participation. The use of this technology in the classroom will help to increase interest and allow students to understand the courses of geography more easily.
