Abstract:

It is accepted that cities have emerged on earth since the Sumerians. The cities that appeared for the first time in the Mesopotamia region in the Eastern Civilization spread to other parts of the world over time. The building materials used in the cities differed according to the regions, which has been effective in the permanence of the architectural structures in the cities. Some of the cities established in the past have been destroyed and have not survived. Some of these have left no traces, but some of them have survived into ruins. Almost none of the ancient Turkish cities before Islam, which is the subject of the study, have survived. Throughout history, it is known that cities have been established near rivers. The first city ruins identified belonging to the Asian Huns BC dated to the 1st century. In this study; the emergence and development of pre-Islamic Turkish cities, almost none of which could come to our time, was revealed. This study was limited to the Huns, Gok-Turks, Uighurs and the city of Kayalik the capital of Karluk. The article includes research works based on first-hand sources and archaeological studies (book, book chapter, article, thesis, encyclopedia article), and the states that emerged with the acceptance of the Islam of the Turks and the works they built were excluded from the scope because they are a separate research subject.
