Abstract:

Social life in traditional settlement areas, which are accepted as the first settlement areas of cities, is closely related to the physical environment. Traditional residential areas were sometimes centralized in urban planning and sometimes left quite far from the city center. The importance of access to every part of the city for elderly users with mobility restrictions, like all urban users, is an indisputable fact of social life. For this reason, this city, which has a considerable proportion in its population structure, provides an opportunity to increase the participation of the users in social life and the level of spatial comfort accessibility standards. It is necessary to draw attention to the importance of the principles that accessibility sets forth with national and international standards are of great importance in terms of the sustainability of social life as well as spatial arrangements so that all individuals can lead their lives in an uninterrupted, healthy and safe manner under equal conditions. Arrangements to be made so that users can easily access all services in traditional residential areas of the city have an important place in increasing the participation of aging individuals in daily life and supporting socio-cultural life. In this sense, the study aims to draw attention to the accessibility level of the traditional settlement areas of the cities as well as the problems faced by the elderly urban users with mobility restrictions. In this context, the Beskonaklar House and its surroundings in the province of Malatya, which was chosen to examine the subject accessibility standards. It has been examined to what extent it meets the needs of the elderly and it is aimed to reveal the importance of accessibility for elderly urban users with on-site analyzes.
