Abstract:

In the field of language education, one of the most crucial aim needs to be to encourage learners for life-long learning. Learning environments out of the class help language learners to see and practice the language they are learning in daily life. School excursions, field trips, going to exhibitions, theathers, and tournaments, and welfare activities can be seen as some of the examples of out -of-school learning. The activities which are held out of the classroom enchance students’ awareness of other learning environments and develep their critical thinking skills while they find an opportunity to use the language they are learning out of the school. Binbaşıoğlu (2000) states that lessons taught only at school and in the classroom might not include everthing for students’ education. In the following paper, the role and aim of out-of-school learning activities in language teaching and the curriculum planning and evaluation of these activities in language classes will be presented with some examples.
