Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an acute inflammatory polyneuropathy characterized by symmetrical weakness and areflexia. It is considered to be an autoimmune disease triggered by bacterial or viral infections. The mortality is 1-2% in childhood GBS and it usually develops due to respiratory failure.
