One of the oldest residential areas located in the region of Erzurum-Kars in Eastern Anatolia, Şüregel has been cultural and trade center of high importance in the region throughout history. It was, therefore, a place of struggle for any state which sought sovereignity over the area. It is evident that any political organization that emerged in an area with appropriate climatic conditions, fertile lands and abundant water sources has a high chance of development. In other words, geographical factors affect, either positively or adversely, historical events. Şüregel area of Kars and Anı city located in this area couldnt establish strong kingdoms due to the lack of a political in spite of exploiting the advantages of geography in terms of cultural aspects positively. Constructed at the juction of the roads that connect Anatolia from the east to west and partly from the north to the South, Şüregel, which remained under the sovereignity of many different states throughout history, was an important residential area with its socio-economic and cultural characteristics and gained a form of its own. In this study, the focus is on the socio-cultural, economic and political characteristics of Şüregal during the Milde-Age.
