Kendini gerçekleştirme kavramı gerek psikoloji literatüründe ve gerekse gündelik dilde çok kullanılan kavramlardan biridir. Bu kavramı ortaya atan hümanisttik psikologlardır. Onlara göre bireylere yetenek ve üretkenliklerini ortaya çıkarabilecek imkan ve ortamlar sağlanırsa her birey kendi içindeki potansiyeli ortaya çıkarma ve üretken olma eğitimindedir. Maslow kendini gerçekleştiren insanın on bir özelliğini belirlemiştir. Bu çalışmada da bu on bir özellik temel alınarak, resim-iş öğretmenliğinde eğitim gören 19 öğrenciye kendilerini gerçekleştirme hedefleri sorulmuş ve bunları yazmaları istenmiştir. Cevaplar içerik analizi yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiş ve 18 ana tema, 2 alt tema ve 2 dominant tema belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin çalışmaya büyük bir gönüllülükle katıldıkları ve içerik açısından çok zengin cevaplar verdikleri görülmüştür. Özellikle de yaratıcılık başlığı altında çok ilginç cevaplar verdikleri, mesleklerini sevdikleri ve bu alanda özgün ürünler vermek istedikleri görülmüştür. Yine cevaplarda toplumsal gelişmeyi önceledikleri, topluma sanatı sevdirmek istediklerini ve iyi birer öğretmen olmak istediklerini belirtmişlerdir. Kavramsal olarak bazı öğrencilerin kendini gerçekleştirme hedeflerine ulaştıkları görülürken, diğerlerinde bu sürecin devam ettiği görülmüştür.
The concept of self-realization is one of the concepts that are widely used in psychology literature and, if necessary, in the daily language. They are humanist psychologists who reveal this concept. According to them, if individuals are provided with opportunities and environments to reveal their abilities and productivity, each individual is trained to reveal its potential and to be productive. Maslow has identified the ten characteristics of the man who realizes himself. In this study, on the basis of these ten features, 19 students who were trained in the painting-work teaching were asked about the goals of achieving themselves and asked them to write them. Answers were evaluated by content analysis method and 18 main themes, 2 sub themes and 2 dominant themes were determined. It has been seen that students participate in the study with a great volunteer and give very rich content answers. Especially under the title of creativity, it has been seen that they give very interesting answers, they love their professions and want to give original products in this field. Again in the answers they pointed out that they prioritize social development, that they want to love art for society and that they want to be a good teacher. Conceptually, some students have achieved their self-realization goals, while others have seen that the process continues.
