Araştırmanın amacı, EKOK problemleri içeren matematiksel modelleme yapmayı gerektiren etkinliklerde öğrencilerin hangi matematiksel modelleme basamaklarına ve matematiksel modelleme düzeylerine ulaştıklarını belirlemektir. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını 8.sınıfta öğrenim gören 25 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak mülakat, gözlem, öğrenci günlükleri ve matematiksel modelleme etkinliklerini içeren çalışma kâğıtları kullanılmıştır. 4 çalışma kâğıdı 4 hafta boyunca haftada 2 saat olacak şekilde öğrencilere uygulanmıştır. Veriler betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda, genelde problemlerin anlaşıldığı, varsayım yapılabildiği ve matematikselleştirme basamağına ulaşılabildiği görülmüştür. Problemi anlamayan ve matematikselleştirme basamağına ulaşamayan gruplar problemi çözme basamağını da gerçekleştirememişlerdir. Ayrıca çözümü doğrulama, çözümü yorumlama ve açıklama-raporlaştırma basamaklarına birçok grup ulaşamamıştır. Diğer taraftan 1. ve 2. etkinlikte grupların çoğunluğu seviye 3 seviyesinde yer alırken, 3. etkinlikte seviye 2, 4. etkinlikte ise seviye 1’de kalmışlardır. Elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda öğrencilerin istenilen matematiksel modelleme basamaklarına ve matematiksel modelleme düzeylerine ulaşabilmeleri için derslerde matematiksel modelleme problemlerine sık sık yer verilmesi önerilmektedir.
The aim of the research is to determine which mathematical modeling steps and levels students have reached in activities that require mathematical modeling involving The Least Common Multiple (LCM) problems. The participants were 25 8th grade students. In the research, data collection tools such as interviews, observations, student diaries, worksheets containing mathematical modeling activities were used. There were four worksheets and each of them was applied to the students two hours a week. This research has been evaluated by using descriptive analysis method. As a result of the study, the problems were generally understood, the groups who understood the problem could make assumptions and the mathematization step could be reached. In addition, many groups could not reach the steps of verifying the solution, interpreting the solution, explanation and reporting. On the other hand, the majority of the groups reached level 3 in the first and second activities most of the groups reached level 2 in the third activity, and many groups reached level 1 in the fourth activity. In accordance with the results, it seems that mathematical modeling problems should be included in the courses more often in order for students to reach the aimed mathematical modeling steps and levels.
