19. yüzyıl, endüstri devrimi ve makineleşmenin hız kazanmasının yanı sıra, barındırdığı savaşlar sebebiyle tüm dünya için hem ciddi bir yıkım süreci hem de aynı ciddiyette bir yapım ihtiyacının ortaya çıktığı bir dönem olarak adlandırılabilir. Üretimin endüstriyel hale gelmesiyle birlikte bu yapım süreci tasarımın her alanında olduğu gibi mimaride de kendi dinamiklerini oluşturmuştur. Dönemin yenilikçi mimarlarından biri olan Le Corbusier bu çerçevede işlevsel, ekonomik, estetik, ergonomik yapılar gerçekleştirmek için bu dinamikleri kendi bakış açısıyla yeni bir üsluba dönüştürme arayışında olmuştur. Bu prensipleri dönemin ihtiyaçlarına ve değişen dünyanın estetik algısına uygun şekilde kategorize ederek sadelik, hız, fonksiyonellik gibi bugün bile mimari tasarımda hala etkisini sürdüren prensipler haline getirmeyi amaçlamıştır. Mimar, Doğu ve Batı mimarisindeki biçimsel standartları ve bunun mimari tasarımdaki yansımalarını detaylı bir şekilde analiz edip, kendi zamanının modern mimarlığının beş ilkesi olarak bilinen standartlar dizisini oluşturmuştur. Bununla berber, Le Corbusier’in kendisinin bile bu ilkeleri tasarımın olmazsa olmaz unsurları olarak dikte etmediği, aksine kendi ortaya koyduğu tasarımlarda bağlama, fonksiyona, inşa metodolojisine göre zaman zaman bu kriterlerin dışına çıktığı görülmektedir. Çalışma Le Corbusier’in oluşturduğu standartlar dizisini, Corbusier’in dünya kültür mirasına giren konut yapılarından 7 tanesi ve 1930-1950 tarihleri arasında Türkiye’de önde gelen Türk mimarlar tarafından inşa edilen 5 adet konut yapısı üzerinden incelemektedir. Çalışma sonucunda incelenen yapılarda modernist yaklaşımın etkisini görmek mümkündür ancak tam anlamıyla ilkeleri barındıran mimari yapıya rastlanmamıştır.
In addition to the industrial revolution and the acceleration of mechanization, the 19th century can be called a period in which both a serious destruction process and the need for construction of the same seriousness arose for the whole world due to the wars it contained. With the industrialization of production, this construction process; as in every field of design, it has created its own dynamics in architecture as well. Le Corbusier, one of the innovative architects of the period; it has sought to transform these dynamics into a new style with its own perspective in order to realize functional, economic, aesthetic and ergonomic structures for societies. By categorizing these principles in accordance with the needs of the period and the aesthetic perception of the changing world; It aimed to make the principles such as simplicity, speed and functionality that are still effective in architectural design even today. He analyzed in detail the formal standards in Eastern and Western architecture and its reflections in architectural design, and created a set of standards known as the five principles of modern architecture of his time. However, it is seen that Le Corbusier did not dictate these principles as indispensable elements of the design, and on the contrary, even in his own designs, he sometimes goes beyond these criteria according to the context, function and construction methodology. The study examines the series of standards created by Le Corbusier, through 7 of Corbusier's residential buildings that entered the world cultural heritage and 5 residential buildings built by leading Turkish architects in Turkey between 1930-1950. As a result of the study, it is possible to see the effect of the modernist approach in the buildings examined, but no architectural structure that fully embodies the principles has been encountered.
