Doğal afetler, yerleşim birimlerinin geçmişlerinde ve geleceklerinde doğrudan etkili olan faktörlerdendir. Doğal afetler içerisinden depremlerin, geçmişte ve günümüzde, şiddetli ve yoğun olarak bir şekilde yaşandığı ve etkili olduğu bölgelerden birisi Dinar, Çivril, Işıklı ve Dazkırı civarıdır. Öyle ki çok sayıda insanın hayatını kaybettiği, önemli derecede hasar ve maddi kayıpların yaşandığı 1 Ekim 1995 Dinar depremi hâlâ hafızlardaki yerini korumaktadır. Bahsi geçen bölge, XIX. yüzyılın son çeyreğinde de çok sayıda büyük depreme sahne olmuştur; 25 yıllık süreç içerisinde, artçı şoklar hariç ondan fazla deprem yaşanmış, bunlardan bazıları çok şiddetli derecede gerçekleşerek yerleşim birimlerinin yerle bir olmasına yol açmış, bazıları da yerleşim birimlerindeki evlerin kısmen hasar görmesiyle sonuçlanmıştır. Tarih biliminin birinci el kaynakları olan arşiv vesikaları ve dönemin basınından faydalanılarak hazırlanan bu çalışma ile hem bölgenin tarihine hem de Türkiye doğal afet tarihine ışık tutulması hedeflenmektedir. Ayrıca bölgenin depremselliği açısından önem arz eden tarihsel depremlere dair sayısal verilerin, ileride yaşanması muhtemel sarsıntıları ve şiddetlerini belirlemeye çalışan deprem bilimciler için kaynak teşkil etmesi umulmaktadır.
Natural disasters are one of the factors that directly affect the past and future of settlements. One of the areas where natural disasters, in the past and today, the earthquakes have been severe and intense and influenced is the surrounding area of Dinar, Chivril, Light and Dazkiri. This study, which is prepared using the archive and the press of the time, which is the first-hand sources of history science, aims to keep light on both the history of the region and the history of natural disasters in Turkey. It is also hoped that the number of historical earthquakes that are of importance in the region are a source for earthquake scientists trying to identify the potential shocks and severity of the earthquake in the future.

In addition, it is hoped that the numerical data on the historical earthquakes which are important for the seismicity of the region will be a resource for earthquake scientists who are trying to determine the tremors and intensities that may occur in the future.
