Abstract This article focuses on the debates about anti-racist education in education of children. The objective is to analyse an anti-racist pedagogy in the initial phase of education of children, in particular in activities developed based on the project "Books: a different kind of toy". The theoretical referential is based on the epistemology of Black authors. To do this, qualitative research is developed with respect to a group of four years old or older students in a Municipal Center of Early Childhood Education in Goiânia (Brazil). Data has been obtained from records in the Portfolio Digital, constructed by the students, their families and their teacher. They show that the book is considered a play-thing, a social good and a right of the children despite their age, social class and race. Thus, this article shares the results of that project, which point out that the children's literature book constitutes a possibility to subsidize the anti-racist struggle, compliance with Law n.º 10.639/03 and the continuing education of teachers of early childhood education.
